President William Ruto, alongside several Cabinet Secretaries, has initiated wide-ranging appointments and reshuffles across parastatal boards, public institutions, and university councils, signaling a renewed focus on governance and sectoral reforms. The changes were officially published in the Kenya Gazette on September 5, 2025.
Dr. Samier Muravvej was appointed as the non-executive Chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service Board, a move that places him at the forefront of implementing the country’s blue economy policy and overseeing fisheries management. His appointment, effective for three years, follows the revocation of his previous role as non-executive Chairperson of the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council, executed under the State Corporations Act.
In the sports sector, Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports CS Salim Mvurya revoked Billy Komintai Konchellah’s appointment as a member of the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) board, effective August 29, 2025. In a near-immediate transition, Gender CS Hanna Cheptumo appointed Konchellah to the National Heroes Council for a three-year term starting September 5, 2025.
Education CS Julius Ogamba also oversaw significant reshuffles within university councils. Rosebella Namango joins the Kenyatta University Council, replacing Alice Waruguru Muita and Ibrahim Abdi Mude, whose appointments were shifted to Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and Machakos University, respectively. Other key movements include Amos Okello to Bomet University College, Razoah Vitisia to Tom Mboya University, and reappointments of Nashon Edward Oluoch Nyona to Taita Taveta University Council and Issa Mohamed Ahmed to Tharaka University. All university appointments run for three years starting September 5.
In the health sector, CS Aden Duale appointed Boniface Yego to the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Public Health Institute, also for a three-year term.
Other sectoral updates include Lands and Housing CS Alice Wahome initiating an Adjudication Programme for the Korosi Community in Baringo County to support pastoralism, and Mining CS Hassan Joho announcing a limestone prospecting licence application in Kajiado County by Nakuru Mining Company Limited. Joho also revealed the formation of a Community Development Agreement Committee for the Kakori Community in Tiaty, aimed at ensuring equitable benefit-sharing with Chuanshan International Mining Company Limited.
These appointments and initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening governance, enhancing public sector efficiency, and promoting community participation across strategic sectors.
