President William Ruto on Monday officially handed over keys to new homeowners at the Boma Yangu Elburgon Estate in Molo Constituency, Nakuru County. The ceremony marked the third handover under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at providing decent, affordable homes for ordinary Kenyans.
The Elburgon Estate comprises 220 housing units built across nine G+4 (ground plus four floors) blocks. Once fully occupied, the estate is expected to accommodate around 1,500 residents. Each unit was allocated through the Boma Yangu online platform, which allows Kenyans to register, apply, and pay for houses transparently.
Speaking during the handover, President Ruto emphasized that the project not only provides affordable homes but also supports job creation and stimulates local industries. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering similar projects across the country to bridge the housing gap.
One of the beneficiaries, James Munga, expressed his gratitude after receiving keys to his two-bedroom unit. “At first, I was hesitant to apply, but when I saw the project taking shape, I didn’t waste time. Now I’m a proud homeowner through Boma Yangu,” he said, urging other Kenyans to take advantage of the initiative.
Another beneficiary, Martha Maina, a public health assistant, praised the rent-to-own model offered by Boma Yangu. “It’s an empowering initiative, especially for people like us who never imagined owning a house so soon,” she said.
The estate features key amenities such as parking spaces, green areas, garbage collection points, walkways, street lighting, an underground water tank, and a borehole to ensure reliable water supply.
President Ruto urged leaders to unite in supporting development initiatives that improve citizens’ livelihoods instead of politicizing government projects.
