President William Ruto on Sunday reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Kenya despite intensifying political attacks from his critics. Speaking during a church service in Kibra, Nairobi, the Head of State urged Kenyans to disregard leaders who peddle insults and ethnic divisions instead of offering viable solutions.
Ruto underscored that his administration remains focused on implementing reforms that touch the lives of ordinary citizens, particularly in the economy, education, and health sectors. He emphasized that these transformations are essential for building a future that reflects the aspirations of all Kenyans.
“Our economy, education, and health are undergoing transformation. Let us focus on that because that is what will determine a destiny that befits all of us,” Ruto said. “I am confident about the future of Kenya. It is a great nation. Nobody should tell you anything less.”
His remarks come amid growing criticism from political opponents, particularly former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has emerged as a vocal critic of Ruto’s leadership. Gachagua has accused the President of engaging in questionable deals and exhibiting weak governance. He has also launched a new political outfit, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which he claims will offer a fresh alternative to Kenyans.
In response, Ruto dismissed Gachagua’s party as “colourless and tribal,” indicating it lacked national appeal or substance. He further urged the public to focus on constructive development rather than divisive rhetoric.
“Let us ignore the naysayers, those who have nothing to offer to us except insults, name-calling, and ethnicity,” Ruto said, reinforcing his stance against what he termed as retrogressive politics.
As political temperatures rise ahead of the 2027 general election, the rift between President Ruto and his former deputy continues to widen. While Ruto pushes forward with his development agenda, opposition figures, including Gachagua, are mobilizing to challenge his administration.
Despite the tension, President Ruto remains optimistic, urging unity and resilience as the country navigates its economic recovery and governance reforms.
