Mombasa County hosted a major boost to Kenya’s agricultural sector on Thursday, September 4, 2025, as President William Ruto officially opened the 2025 Mombasa International Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show. The exhibition, which runs until Sunday, September 7, aims to promote modern farming practices and showcase innovations in the sector.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, President Ruto called on Kenyans to embrace boldness in promoting the nation’s vision. “We must be the bold generation that sells the vision…. Mabibi na mabwana, sasa ni fursa yangu kuu kutangaza ufunguzi rasmi wa maonyesho ya kilimo ya kimataifa ya Mombasa ya mwaka wa elfu mbili na ishirini na tano,” Ruto said. This year, the exhibition is themed ‘Promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiative for Sustainable Economic Growth,’ reflecting the country’s focus on sustainable and innovative agricultural practices.
The organisers have revised the admission fees for this year’s show, with adults now required to pay Ksh350, up from Ksh300, while children will pay Ksh300, compared to Ksh250 last year. ASK Mombasa branch chairperson, Henry Nyaga, reassured visitors that despite the price increase, adequate facilities have been put in place, including six payment booths, to manage the expected crowds efficiently.
Nyaga further highlighted the show’s educational focus, noting that students will be exposed to new agricultural technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), drones, sensors, and robotics for precision farming. “We live in a digital age where farmers apply sensors, drones and robotics to track weather, soil and crops. Precision farming is the future, and this is what our students and farmers will get to learn here,” he said.
The event has attracted strong interest from the education sector, with at least 100 schools confirming participation. Nyaga encouraged more teachers to bring pupils, emphasizing that early exposure to modern farming practices could inspire entrepreneurial ventures among students.
Internationally, the show will feature exhibitors from at least seven countries, alongside local innovators. Notable new participants include the Export Processing Zones (EPZ), highlighting the growing integration of trade and agriculture.
The 2025 Mombasa ASK show promises a blend of innovation, education, and trade, positioning Kenya as a hub for modern, climate-smart agriculture in the region.
