President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have led Kenyans in mourning the tragic death of Nyandarua County nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Beth Wahito, who died in a road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway on Saturday night.
Wahito, a long-serving public servant and seasoned political figure, was returning home from a budget committee meeting in Naivasha when the fatal crash occurred at around 11 pm.
In his condolence message, President Ruto described Wahito as a “solid grassroots mobilizer” and a steadfast supporter of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). “We join the family and the people of Nyandarua County in mourning the passing of Mheshimiwa Beth Wahito. She subscribed to progressive politics and will be remembered for many fresh ideas that transformed the lives of the people of Njabini,” the President said.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also expressed his sorrow, highlighting Wahito’s efforts toward economic empowerment. “She will be remembered for her relentless dedication to the economic empowerment of the people of Njabini from where she hailed,” Kindiki stated.
Beth Wahito’s political journey spanned over three decades, during which she held several key leadership roles. She previously served in the Democratic Party, later chaired NARC-Kenya in Nyandarua, and most recently coordinated UDA activities in Kinangop.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua described her as a humble and development-conscious leader whose legacy would continue to inspire many. “She lived a decent life in and out of politics. I knew her as a deeply development-conscious leader and a people-person. Her demise leaves a big gap in society and tears in many eyes beyond a painful grief,” Gachagua said.
Wahito’s passing is a major loss not only to Nyandarua County but also to the national political scene. Her commitment to public service, women’s empowerment, and grassroots mobilization earned her widespread respect and admiration.
The nation mourns a dedicated servant whose legacy will be cherished by the people she tirelessly served.
