Police in Kirinyaga County have launched a probe into the mysterious death of a man whose body was discovered hanging from a tree in a bush in Ndomba, Kutus, within Mwea East sub-county.
According to Joseph Kariuki, the village elder of Ndomba, the grisly discovery was made by the deceased’s brother, who owns a plot of land adjacent to the bush.
“He noticed a foul smell coming from the area and went to investigate. That’s when he saw the body dangling from a tree. He raised the alarm and notified me, and I immediately informed the local chief,” Kariuki recounted.
Officers from Wang’uru Police Station responded to the scene and transported the body to Kerugoya Mortuary. The man’s identity remains unknown, and preliminary assessments suggest the body had been at the site for nearly a week.
Kutus Location Chief Nancy Gichuki confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. “The body was in an advanced state of decomposition. We are working with authorities to identify the deceased and determine whether foul play was involved,” she said.
The discovery has sparked fear and concern among local residents, with many pointing to a worrying trend of unexplained deaths in the area.
“This is not the first time a body has been found in this bush,” said Catherine Wangui, a local resident. “Sometime back, a headless body was discovered here, which was later identified as a man from Ciagini in Mwea West.”
Locals now suspect the secluded bush may be a dumping ground for victims of foul play.
“This bush has become a crime scene,” said Evan Muriithi, another resident. “We fear for our safety and call on the government to clear the area and improve security.”
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information that could assist in identifying the deceased or shedding light on the case to come forward. The investigation continues as police work to piece together the events leading to the disturbing find.
