Kanyenyaini Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Grace Nduta was on Thursday arraigned in court alongside three other suspects in connection with the alleged stage-managed abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi. The dramatic incident has stirred public interest, as investigators allege the abduction was faked in a bid to evade imminent arrest.
The prosecution has filed a request to have Nduta detained for 14 days to allow further investigations, citing the complexity of the case and the need to secure crucial evidence. The three co-accused, whose identities were not immediately disclosed, face a similar request for detention, with the prosecution seeking 15 days in their cases.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the purported abduction took place on the night of May 25, 2025. However, the DCI claims that MP Koimburi was, in fact, not abducted. In a statement, the agency revealed that Koimburi spent the night drinking at a bar in Gatundu South in the company of MCA Nduta, casting significant doubt on his initial claim of abduction.
The alleged plot reportedly involved efforts by certain security officers to shield the MP from arrest, adding another layer of intrigue to the ongoing investigations. It is believed the staged abduction was a diversion to prevent law enforcement from apprehending Koimburi, although the specific charges he was allegedly avoiding remain unclear.
Defense lawyers representing the accused have strongly opposed the prosecution’s request for continued detention. They argue that the suspects are not flight risks and that releasing them on bail would not impede the DCI’s investigations. They have maintained that their clients are cooperative and that there is no justification for their prolonged detention.
The court is expected to deliver its ruling on the bail application at 2:30 p.m. today.
As the legal process unfolds, this case has sparked public debate on the misuse of public office and the lengths to which some individuals may go to avoid accountability. More revelations are anticipated as the investigations deepen.
