The government has dismissed allegations that ongoing development projects in Mbeere North are politically motivated to sway the upcoming by-election in favour of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate.
Speaking at Ndutori Village in Mumenji Ward on Saturday, October 11, 2025, during the launch of a rural electrification project, Principal Secretary for Energy Alex Wachira emphasized that the government’s development agenda is national, not political.
“Our development programmes are not targeted at specific regions or political gains. We are connecting homes, building roads, and drilling boreholes because Kenyans everywhere deserve better services,” said Wachira.
He revealed that Mbeere North has received Ksh303 million under the rural electrification initiative, with more than 150 households in Mumenji already connected to the national grid through the Last Mile Connectivity Project.
The PS urged local leaders to focus on service delivery rather than political rhetoric, noting that development initiatives are designed to uplift livelihoods and empower communities. “Development should not be politicised. When electricity reaches homes, it powers businesses, improves schools, and enhances healthcare,” he added.
Principal Secretary for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, who accompanied him, dismissed rumours that the Gikuyari–Kirie Road project had been abandoned. He confirmed that the project is fully funded and will commence as scheduled.
“There are false narratives being peddled that the Gikuyari–Kirie Road lacks funding. I want to make it clear that the project is fully financed,” said Mbugua, adding that infrastructure development remains a cornerstone of the Kenya Kwanza government’s economic agenda.
UDA candidate Leonard Muthende lauded the government’s ongoing efforts, saying the projects signal meaningful progress for Mbeere North. He urged residents to ignore opposition propaganda and support initiatives aimed at long-term growth.
