The government has announced that the public viewing of the late Raila Odinga’s body will now take place at the Kasarani Stadium instead of Parliament Buildings. The change was prompted by the overwhelming crowds that gathered at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and later at Parliament to pay their respects to the former Prime Minister.
Officials also confirmed that the planned procession from Lee Funeral Home to Parliament has been cancelled to ensure public safety and smooth coordination of the mourning activities. Thousands of mourners had earlier escorted Raila’s body from JKIA in an emotional display of grief and admiration for the long-serving opposition leader.
Kasarani Stadium, known for hosting major national events, is expected to accommodate the massive turnout anticipated in the coming days as Kenyans from across the country continue to mourn Raila Odinga’s passing.
