Saturday, October 18, 2025, marks Day 3 of the national farewell ceremonies for Kenya’s long-serving opposition leader and statesman, Raila Amollo Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025, aged 80. The day’s program is part of the final journey leading to his burial in Bondo, Siaya County, scheduled for Sunday, October 19.
The day begins early, at 7:00 am, with the body leaving Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi for the airport under tight security and ceremonial guard. The body will then be flown to Kisumu, arriving around 8:00 am, where thousands of mourners are expected to line the streets in a show of respect for the man fondly known as Baba.
Between 9:00 am and 9:20 am, the Odinga family and dignitaries, including top government officials, political leaders, and foreign envoys, are expected to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Kisumu. A public viewing session will follow, allowing citizens from across the Nyanza region and beyond to pay their last respects from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.
In the afternoon, at 2:30 pm, the body will depart Kisumu for Bondo, where it will spend the night ahead of Sunday’s interment. The convoy is expected to reach Bondo by 4:30 pm, with prayers and a short memorial service taking place at the ACK Church from 4:40 pm.
The solemn procession symbolizes the end of an era in Kenyan politics, as the country continues to celebrate the legacy of Raila Odinga — a man whose life was defined by sacrifice, resilience, and an unwavering fight for democracy.
Sunday’s burial in Bondo is expected to draw global attention, marking the final chapter of a statesman whose influence shaped Kenya’s political landscape for decades.
