Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has led the nation in mourning the sudden death of popular Kenyan comedian and content creator Zachariah Kariuki, widely known as Mr KK Mwenyewe. Mr KK passed away on Monday evening while receiving treatment at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital. His demise was announced Tuesday morning by fellow comedian Kafengo, though the cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
Gachagua, who is currently on a political tour of the United States alongside his spouse Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, paid a heartfelt tribute to the young comedian. In a statement, he described Mr KK as a “content creator per excellence and an inspiration to many.”
“I have this morning woken up to the sad demise of Mr Zachariah Kariuki alias Mr KK Mwenyewe,” Gachagua said. “Mr KK, a young, consistent, and resilient young man, used comedy to communicate simple and creative messages to all Kenyans and spoke to our hearts.”
Mr KK earned widespread acclaim for his sharp political satire and his witty impersonations of Gachagua himself performances that not only entertained but also resonated with millions of Kenyans. His humorous yet incisive content gained him a massive following on social media platforms, where he was seen as a voice of the people through satire.
The Deputy President extended his condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the entire creative industry, which he described as having lost a true talent. “I send my deepest sympathies to his family and his friends at this difficult moment. I especially condole the creative industry on the loss of a champion whose creative eye lives with us for days to come,” he said.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fans and fellow entertainers across the country. Many described Mr KK as one of the most influential satirists of his generation, whose sudden passing leaves a deep void in Kenya’s comedy and political commentary space.
As the nation mourns, Mr KK Mwenyewe is remembered not only for his humor but for his fearless ability to use comedy as a tool for reflection, critique, and unity.
