Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has called on political leaders in Nyanza to focus on delivering their mandates instead of engaging in endless politicking. Her remarks come amid growing public fatigue with leaders who prioritize rhetoric over tangible progress.
Ruth has distinguished herself through a practical, hands-on approach to leadership, championing empowerment programs that directly impact local communities. Through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), she has distributed steel stalls, water tanks, and community cheques, empowering small traders and farmers across Kisumu County.
Her initiatives underscore a shift from tokenistic handouts to sustainable empowerment. One of her notable projects—a partnership with the Kenya Seed Company and other institutions aims to enhance agricultural resilience and food security, reinforcing her commitment to strengthening Kisumu’s rural economy.
To tackle youth unemployment, Ruth has spearheaded training programs that have benefitted nearly 2,000 young people through the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. This focus on skills development, she says, is more impactful than offering temporary relief.
In addition, her investment in Blue Economy and Human Capacity Building programs reflects a long-term vision for economic growth and social transformation. On social welfare, Ruth has pledged to establish six Gender-Based Violence (GBV) centres and a safe house in Gita Kajulu, addressing women’s safety and dignity issues often overlooked in development agendas.
Politically, Ruth has maintained a disciplined approach, steering clear of succession debates while reaffirming her loyalty to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Her stance reflects strategic maturity and reinforces her image as a servant leader focused on results.
Ruth concluded her remarks by urging citizens to register as voters, noting that genuine empowerment includes civic participation and active involvement in shaping Kenya’s future.
