Three years into President William Ruto’s leadership, church leaders have voiced strong criticism of the Kenya Kwanza government.
The Pentecostal Voice of Kenya Association (PVK) says ordinary Kenyans are worse off today. At a press briefing in Nairobi, PVK Chairman Apostle Peter Manyuru accused the administration of abandoning its promises and burdening citizens with high taxes and debt.
Cost of Living Worsens
PVK noted that the high cost of living remains the biggest concern. Manyuru said taxation policies have made life harder and sparked widespread protests. According to him, citizens feel left on their own without meaningful support from the government.
Healthcare Reforms Under Fire
The clerics also criticized the healthcare reforms. They argued that the shift from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA) has not solved existing problems.
Funding shortages, corruption, and inefficiencies remain. Worse still, the public has not been fully informed about how the new system works.
Questions on Affordable Housing
PVK admitted that housing projects are visible across the country. However, they questioned who exactly will access the houses and under what terms. Manyuru warned that without transparency, the initiative could end up benefiting a few powerful individuals.
Education and Governance Concerns
The association also raised alarm over delays in school funding, corruption through ghost schools, and unrest in institutions. They pointed to a looming lecturers’ strike as another threat to higher education.
On governance, PVK accused leaders of focusing on personal interests instead of serving citizens. They expressed concern about attempts in the Senate to extend presidential and parliamentary terms, despite the President’s rejection of the proposal.
Call for Action and Accountability
Apostle Manyuru urged the government to honor its pledges, fight corruption, and prioritize citizens’ welfare.
“Leaders should turn promises into action. With elections around the corner, Kenyans will soon hold them accountable,” he said.
