Allies of President William Ruto from the Ukambani region have strongly rebuked former President Uhuru Kenyatta over his criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking at the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference on Friday, Uhuru accused the government of replacing effective initiatives like Linda Mama with “untested and untried experiments” that were burdening Kenyans. He argued that many of the gains made during his tenure had been eroded and warned that the current leadership was repeating past mistakes.
However, Mwala MP and UDA National Organizing Secretary Vincent Kawaya dismissed Uhuru’s remarks, insisting that the former head of state should “retire honourably and stop lecturing those fixing his mess.” He blamed Uhuru for leaving behind a struggling economy and cited the Nairobi Expressway as an exploitative project benefitting a few elites.
Kawaya defended Ruto’s administration, stating that its long-term economic and grassroots empowerment programs would guarantee the President “an undisputed re-election” in 2027. He further urged opposition leaders to provide practical solutions instead of constant fault-finding.
Kitui South MP Dr. Rachael Nyamai echoed Kawaya’s sentiments, praising the affordable housing initiative as a bold step that previous regimes avoided. According to her, the project promises both dignified living for Kenyans and wider economic empowerment.
The leaders also weighed in on the ongoing lecturers’ strike, calling on members of the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) to resume negotiations in order to safeguard students’ education.
On the international front, Kawaya and Nyamai applauded President Ruto’s recent address at the United Nations General Assembly, contrasting it with past delegations. Kawaya said Ruto demonstrated “clarity and statesmanship” on the global stage, unlike previous visits marred by tribal rhetoric.
The Ukambani leaders concluded by urging Kenyans to give government reforms time to bear fruit, stressing that the Kenya Kwanza administration is steering the country in the right direction.
