The government has announced a fresh round of appointments and reappointments affecting several strategic state agencies, as outlined in the latest Kenya Gazette. President William Ruto, Chief Justice Martha Koome, and multiple Cabinet Secretaries unveiled new leadership changes aimed at enhancing governance, oversight, and operational efficiency.
President Ruto reappointed James Dianga as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA). Dianga will serve a new three-year term effective November 21, 2025, continuing his mandate to steer socio-economic development in the Lake Victoria region through coordinated planning and sustainable resource management.
In the agriculture sector, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe confirmed the reappointment of John Mtuta Mruttu as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC). Mruttu, a former governor known for his experience in agricultural administration, will continue guiding the corporation’s oversight of credit facilities for farmers and agribusinesses for another three-year term beginning November 21, 2025.
Energy and Petroleum CS James Opiyo Wandayi appointed Francis Agar as a member of the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA) under Section 58(e)(i) of the Energy Act, 2019. Agar’s three-year term, effective November 21, 2025, is expected to strengthen Kenya’s long-term plans for energy diversification, nuclear research, and safety preparedness.
In the education sector, CS Julius Ogamba appointed Peter Keiyoro as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Council of Tharaka University, also beginning his three-year term on November 21, 2025. Keiyoro will play a key role in shaping the university’s governance and academic growth.
Chief Justice Martha Koome made significant changes within the Judiciary’s committees. She appointed Ilham Hisham Said to represent the Law Society of Kenya at the NCAJ Working Committee on reviewing sexual offences and gender-based violence laws revoking the earlier appointment of Irene Ndegwa. Koome also appointed Harrison Barasa to the same committee, replacing Thomas Nzioki to enhance expertise in the ongoing legal review.
