President William Ruto on Tuesday chaired a Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi, just hours after returning from Ethiopia, where he participated in the second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4).
The summit, held in Addis Ababa, brought together global leaders and stakeholders to assess progress on food systems transformation and align actions with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the high-level event, President Ruto delivered Kenya’s national statement, reiterating the government’s commitment to overhauling food systems to enhance climate resilience, boost agricultural productivity, and support sustainable development across the country.
In his address, Ruto emphasized the urgent need for coordinated efforts to ensure food security in the face of climate change and economic shocks. He highlighted Kenya’s ongoing investments in climate-smart agriculture, value addition, and food supply chain improvements as part of its broader development agenda.
Upon his return, the President convened the Cabinet meeting to brief members on key takeaways from the summit and provide updates on the implementation of national development priorities. He specifically highlighted the progress of several transformative infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating economic growth and improving service delivery to citizens.
The Cabinet meeting focused on evaluating ongoing flagship initiatives under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), including developments in transport, energy, irrigation, housing, and digital infrastructure. Ruto called for greater inter-ministerial coordination to fast-track implementation and ensure tangible benefits for Kenyans.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki was present during the meeting, alongside other senior Cabinet Secretaries and government officials. Their presence underlined the administration’s collective commitment to maintaining momentum on key reforms and projects amid growing public demands for accountability and service delivery.
