President William Ruto has dismissed claims that he is courting Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to join his broad-based government. Speaking during a media engagement at Kitui State Lodge on Thursday evening, Ruto emphasized that it was not yet the right time for political discussions.
“As to matters regarding the relationship between political parties, those are discussions that are just politics. I am not here to discuss matters of politics,” Ruto stated, underlining his commitment to prioritizing development over political maneuvering.
The Head of State reiterated that his main focus remains on serving the people of Ukambani, stressing that politicians, including those in opposition, have the right to make independent decisions. “I am here to discuss the development of the great people of Ukambani, and I will limit myself to that. Matters of politics we will discuss when the right time comes, and everyone knows how they will handle their political issues,” he added.
These remarks come after reports suggested that Ruto was seeking to bring Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa into his administration, in a strategy reportedly aimed at isolating his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua. Both Kalonzo and Wamalwa have since dismissed these claims, affirming their commitment to the opposition.
During the media session, President Ruto also pledged to complete most of the projects initiated during the Uhuru Kenyatta era, citing that he was following a similar approach to his predecessor. “The former President recently said that it took him about two and a half years to complete most of the projects started by his predecessor, and I have also done just like him,” he noted.
By focusing on ongoing development projects and avoiding political distractions, President Ruto aims to demonstrate that his administration is prioritizing the welfare of Kenyans over partisan politics.
