President William Ruto has announced a donation of Sh50 million to support the ongoing construction of the African Divine Church (ADC) Cathedral in Vihiga County. The cathedral, which will serve as the church’s national headquarters, has seen significant expansion from its original plan, prompting increased financial support from the government.
Speaking during a Sunday service at the African Divine Church in Gamalenga, Vihiga County, on November 2, 2025, President Ruto commended the congregation for their dedication and contribution to the project. He noted that the government initially donated Sh3 million when the project began, but the church’s ambitious plans required additional funding.
“When I was here, you told me you wanted to build a cathedral as your headquarters. Initially, we gave Sh3 million because it was supposed to be a small church. However, you have since raised Sh20 million on your own,” Ruto said.
The President revealed that church leaders later approached him seeking further assistance to complete the expanded structure.
“Your clergy came to my office and said the Sh3 million was not enough. They requested an additional Sh50 million to bring it to Sh80 million, and I agreed. Last week, I sent the Sh50 million,” he added.
Ruto urged local leaders and community members to join hands in ensuring the project’s completion, emphasizing that the development of places of worship should be a shared responsibility between government, leaders, and the faithful.
The Head of State was accompanied by several regional leaders, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya.
Before attending the church service, President Ruto inspected ongoing works at the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital, as part of his four-day development tour of the Western region.
