President William Ruto on Tuesday, October 14, stepped out in full military uniform for the first time since assuming office to commemorate the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Day at Moi Barracks in Eldoret.
The annual celebration, held every October 14, honors the bravery, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who protect Kenya’s sovereignty. This year’s event carried a special moment as President Ruto, in his capacity as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, donned full ceremonial military attire symbolizing his leadership and solidarity with the defence forces.
The event brought together senior military officers, government officials, and members of the public in a colorful ceremony that highlighted the KDF’s dual role in national defence and community service.
In his remarks, President Ruto lauded the armed forces as “the heartbeat of our defence and the driving force behind national development.” He emphasized that the KDF’s mission goes beyond military operations, underscoring its contributions to humanitarian work, disaster response, and nation-building.
“KDF Day is a reminder of the military’s mission to protect and serve all Kenyans. True strength lies in compassion and community engagement,” Ruto noted.
The KDF also used the occasion to showcase its ongoing community projects, including infrastructure development, environmental conservation, and education support initiatives across the country.
By appearing in military regalia, Ruto joined the tradition of his predecessors who occasionally wore the uniform during national defence ceremonies. His gesture was seen as a strong message of unity and respect toward Kenya’s armed forces.
As the celebrations concluded, Kenyans were reminded of the sacrifice and dedication of the KDF, whose commitment ensures the country’s peace, stability, and development.
