President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto on Sunday joined thousands of faithful at the African Inland Church (AIC) Ziwani in Nairobi to mark the church’s 70th anniversary. The event, held at Starehe Boys Centre, brought together government leaders, clergy, and congregants for a day of prayer, reflection, and celebration.
The Head of State was accompanied by several senior government officials, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja. Also in attendance were Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, Members of Parliament, and Nairobi County Assembly leaders.
In his address, President Ruto praised the African Inland Church for its long-standing contribution to Kenya’s spiritual and social development. He noted that for seven decades, AIC has been instrumental in promoting moral values, education, and community empowerment across the country.
“The church has been a firm partner in shaping Kenya’s moral fabric and fostering unity among our people. We must continue to work together for the good of our nation,” Ruto said.
The President also acknowledged the role of faith-based institutions in advancing education and peace, citing the partnership between the church and government in promoting social welfare and development.
Governor Sakaja commended the church for its commitment to serving Nairobi residents through various outreach and youth empowerment programs.
The 70th anniversary celebration was marked by vibrant praise sessions, thanksgiving prayers, and recognition of long-serving clergy and members who have dedicated their lives to the church’s mission.
Founded in the early 1950s, AIC Ziwani stands as one of the oldest and most influential congregations within the African Inland Church of Kenya. The anniversary not only reflected on the church’s journey of faith but also envisioned its continued impact in nurturing future generations.
