President William Ruto has reaffirmed that Kenya is experiencing tangible gains from the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), a central pillar of his administration’s development strategy. Speaking at State House Nairobi on Friday during a meeting with Maa community elders and leaders from 10 counties, the President said the country’s economy is on a stable trajectory, attributing it to the bold policy decisions implemented since 2022.
The meeting brought together governors Joseph ole Lenku (Kajiado), Patrick ole Ntutu (Narok), and Jonathan Lelelit (Samburu), along with 25 Members of Parliament and other local leaders. Ruto pointed to a significant drop in inflation from 9.6 percent in 2022 to 3.5 percent currently, as well as increased agricultural productivity in key sectors such as maize, tea, and sugarcane. The President also highlighted improved earnings for coffee and milk farmers as further proof of economic progress.
“I can proudly say the people of Kenya, through the decisions we have made collectively, are reaping the fruits because the economy is now stable,” said President Ruto.
In addition to economic matters, Ruto called on the Maa community to prioritise education for all children, regardless of gender. He urged elders to support full school enrollment for both boys and girls, stressing the role of education in national development.
“Education is critical and the Maa community should not be left behind,” he said.
The President also emphasized the importance of national unity and peace, urging leaders to shun divisive and tribal politics. He said that a cohesive society is essential for sustained development and effective problem-solving.
Governor Lenku pledged the Maa community’s support for the government’s agenda, while Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina offered his personal backing for the President’s leadership.
“I have come here specifically to assure President Ruto of my total support in implementing his agenda for this country,” said Senator ole Kina.
The meeting underscored the growing cooperation between the national government and regional leaders in promoting inclusive development and social cohesion.
