President William Ruto has declared that he is “the most learned president Kenya has ever elected.” He made the remarks on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at State House, Nairobi. The event was the presentation of a Ksh2.65 billion cheque to the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA).
Education and Experience
Ruto said his strong educational background gives him the confidence to push through reforms.
“I have studied, and I have studied well. I am probably the most learned president Kenya has ever elected. So who am I waiting for? I have no excuse,” he told the gathering.
The President also pointed to his long career in public service. He served as a Member of Parliament for 15 years, then as Deputy President for 10 years, before taking office as Head of State.
No Time to Delay
Ruto dismissed calls from critics asking him to slow down reforms in education, affordable housing, and the Social Health Authority (SHA).
“There are people who tell me reforms are difficult and I should wait for another term. Do we have time to wait? Korea left us long ago. Singapore left us long ago. We don’t have time,” he said.
He stressed that while some projects may take time, his government is committed to acting now. “Let us do what we can do today. If something remains, we will handle it tomorrow,” he added.
A Call for Unity
Ruto said his unique background—serving both in government and opposition—positions him to unite the country.
“Nobody else has the network to unite both sides and push forward. That is why I must do all these things,” he said.
The President also asked Kenyans to be patient with him if his actions upset some groups. “Allow me to straighten this country so that it moves in the right direction,” he concluded.
