President William Ruto on Saturday, May 4, launched a three-day development tour of Migori County with an interdenominational church service at Migori Primary School grounds in Suna East. The tour, running through May 6, is part of the Head of State’s broader agenda to accelerate development and strengthen his political foothold in regions traditionally dominated by the opposition.
During the tour, President Ruto is scheduled to traverse five constituencies Suna East, Suna West, Rongo, Uriri, and Awendo where he will commission key infrastructure projects and inspect ongoing development programs. Among the major highlights is the official commissioning of the Stella-Gogo-Sibuoche tarmac road, a significant milestone aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic activity in the region.
In Uriri Constituency, the President will preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for a 200-unit affordable housing project, in line with the Kenya Kwanza administration’s ambitious housing agenda. The housing scheme is expected to create job opportunities for local youth and stimulate the construction industry.
Additionally, President Ruto will inspect several healthcare and infrastructure development initiatives across the five constituencies, reinforcing the government’s commitment to equitable service delivery.
This tour follows a March 26 meeting at State House with leaders from Western Kenya, where Ruto pledged continued support for the revival of the sugar sector—a key economic lifeline for Migori and the broader Western region. The visit also comes on the heels of a political cooperation agreement between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, signaling a thaw in what was previously a tense political rivalry.
Observers see the Migori tour as part of Ruto’s strategic efforts to consolidate support in ODM strongholds ahead of the 2027 general election. The move is viewed as a deliberate push to build political bridges and cultivate grassroots support, especially amid emerging political realignments in the region.
As the President continues his tour, residents are keenly watching for tangible commitments that will translate into improved livelihoods, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.
