President William Ruto has lauded National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah as a loyal ally and true brother, declaring that the legislator has carried burdens that even his own siblings could not shoulder.
Speaking during the burial of Ichung’wah’s father, Isaac Ngugi, in Gikambura, Kiambu County, on Monday, September 15, 2025, the President praised Ichung’wah for his unwavering commitment and sacrifices.
“This man, Kimani Ichung’wah, I call him Anthony, has taken many bullets on my behalf. He has carried huge burdens on my behalf, burdens that even my own brothers could not carry, but this man has carried them,” Ruto said.
The Head of State described these “bullets” as the immense political pressures and challenges Ichung’wah has endured over the years, underscoring that true leadership is measured by the willingness to stand up when it matters most. “He is not just a friend but a friend indeed,” Ruto added.
Highlighting the depth of their relationship, the President said his bond with Ichung’wah extended beyond politics. “My friend Kimani, on this day when we are putting to rest your father, I want to say thank you for not just being a friend but also a brother to me. And the same way you have stood with me, I want to say this in front of your family: I will also stand with you,” he affirmed.
Ruto further hailed Ichung’wah as a national figure, noting that his leadership and resilience were not only evident in Kikuyu Constituency or Kiambu County but also on the broader national stage. He attributed these qualities to the upbringing and values instilled by his late father, Isaac Ngugi, whose influence shaped both his son and the community around him.
The burial service drew several prominent leaders, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, who joined mourners in consoling the family.
Ngugi, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, at the age of 105, was remembered in the eulogy as a man of discipline, resilience, and strong faith. His values, Ruto noted, continue to inspire Ichung’wah and many others who knew him.
Ichung’wah appeared visibly emotional as the President delivered the glowing tribute, acknowledging the profound influence of his father and the enduring bond between himself and the President.
