President William Ruto on Wednesday hosted leaders from the Gusii region at State House, Nairobi. The delegation was led by Kisii Governor Simba Arati.
The meeting focused on ways to accelerate development in Kisii and Nyamira counties. The goal is to improve local economies and support community growth.
Transformative Investments for Gusii Region
President Ruto outlined several major projects that aim to boost the region’s infrastructure, housing, and energy. He called the plans a historic opportunity to spread prosperity across Kenya.
“We have before us a rare and historic opportunity to make every part of our country truly prosperous,” he said.
In Kisii, the government plans to:
- Build 15,000 affordable housing units worth Sh30 billion.
- Construct student hostels valued at Sh2.5 billion.
- Develop four modern markets estimated at Sh2.4 billion.
Nyamira County will also benefit from similar projects:
- 7,000 housing units.
- New student hostels.
- Three modern markets worth over Sh16 billion.
Electricity and Local Growth
The government will connect over 32,000 households across the two counties to reliable electricity. This is expected to boost trade, support industries, and improve living standards.
Inclusive Development
President Ruto stressed that local leaders play a key role in ensuring these projects benefit the communities directly. He emphasized the importance of inclusive development that reaches all areas.
Also present at the meeting were ODM leader Raila Odinga, Cabinet Secretary Ogamba Migosi, and Solicitor General Shadrack Mose.
The meeting highlights a renewed commitment to regional growth. It shows a unified approach to addressing the needs of the Gusii community while aligning national projects with local priorities.
