President William Ruto concluded his development tour in Kitui County on November 15, 2025, meeting grassroots leaders at the Kitui State Lodge. Accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Ruto engaged local leaders on strategies to enhance healthcare, land ownership, and infrastructure in the region.
During the tour, the President announced that the national government will invest Sh200 million to establish a new Level 4 hospital at Mutito, named Nzamba Kitonga Memorial Hospital, in honour of the late Committee of Experts chairman. The facility is expected to expand access to quality healthcare for residents across Kitui County.
Ruto also distributed 15,000 title deeds to residents in Kamuwongo and Mwingi North. The initiative aims to resolve longstanding land ownership issues, empowering residents with legal property rights and fostering security of tenure.
In line with improving local infrastructure, the President officially launched the tarmacking of a 13km road connecting Kamuwongo and Kandwia. The project will enhance connectivity, ease transportation, and open up market access for farmers and traders.
Additionally, Ruto inspected and handed over the newly built Kamuwongo fresh produce market, a modern facility supporting over 200 traders. The market includes cold rooms, an ICT hub, baby-nursing rooms, and other amenities designed to boost commerce and create employment opportunities for youth.
This grassroots engagement reinforces Ruto’s bottom-up economic agenda, emphasizing service delivery closer to the people and strengthening the government’s relationship with local communities. It follows similar outreach initiatives, such as the May gathering where over 1,500 grassroots leaders from Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni met the President at State House.
Through these initiatives, Ruto’s administration seeks to enhance social services, secure land ownership, and expand infrastructure, ensuring sustainable development for Kitui County and reinforcing the government’s commitment to the people.
