President William Ruto has responded to a call by Reverend Patrick Thegu Mutahi, moderator of the 24th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. The call urged leaders to use their time in office meaningfully.
The remarks were made during the burial of Kimani Ichung’wah’s father, Isaac Ngugi, on Monday, September 15, 2025. Reverend Mutahi reminded mourners that life is short and leaders must act decisively and responsibly.
“We cannot afford not to do the right things. Because of the shortness of our lives, those in leadership must use their time in office wisely. We cannot waste time because tomorrow is uncertain,” he said.
President Ruto described the message as timely. He said every leader, whether an MP, governor, or MCA, must contribute meaningfully to the nation. He stressed that leadership requires deliberate action and shared responsibility.
“Thank you, our moderator, for reminding us that life is short. Everyone must do their part. If we are MCAs, we do our part; if we are governors, we do our part; if we are MPs, we do our part,” Ruto said.
He expressed confidence in Kenya’s future, noting that purposeful action ensures opportunities are maximized for national progress.
The funeral of 105-year-old Isaac Ngugi attracted many political leaders, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo. Ngugi passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025.
He was remembered for his discipline, faith, and lifelong commitment to sobriety. Senior Reverend Kogu highlighted Ngugi’s advice for a progressive and united nation: avoid drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and tattoos.
Born in 1920, Ngugi faced early life hardships but grew into a respected figure of resilience and moral discipline. His life and values continue to inspire leaders and citizens to act with integrity and purpose.
