President William Ruto has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Kenya, emphasizing that his administration remains focused on fulfilling promises made to citizens rather than engaging in premature political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during the official opening of the third National Executive Retreat held in Karen, Nairobi, on Thursday, the Head of State urged members of the Executive to stay the course in delivering the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development agenda. The two-day retreat brought together Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and senior government officials to evaluate progress and strategize on accelerating key deliverables.
“I am not focused on the next election but on delivering the transformation of our country that I promised Kenyans,” Ruto stated, underscoring his administration’s commitment to the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He noted that while some of the decisions made have been difficult, they are now yielding tangible results. “I have made difficult decisions, but I am happy that they are paying dividends,” he said.
The BETA blueprint focuses on six strategic pillars: lowering the cost of living, eliminating hunger, creating jobs, widening the tax base, improving the foreign exchange balance, and promoting inclusive economic growth. These goals are being implemented through targeted investments in five priority sectors—agriculture, health, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the digital superhighway and creative economy, and affordable housing.
Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau echoed the President’s message, saying the retreat is an opportunity to reflect on how government efforts have impacted the lives of ordinary Kenyans. “The question of the moment will be: what difference have our efforts made in the lives of Kenyans, and where should efforts be recast to enhance delivery?” she noted.
President Ruto concluded by urging leaders not to be swayed by political distractions but to remain steadfast in driving the nation’s socio-economic transformation, signaling a firm shift from politics to policy as Kenya navigates through critical development milestones.
