President William Ruto has strongly rebuked Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro for his growing criticism of key government projects the Affordable Housing Project and the Nyota Youth Programme accusing him of offering no viable alternatives.
Speaking on Sunday during the launch of Phase One of the Infrastructure and Smart City facilities at Konza Technopolis, President Ruto defended the two initiatives as central to his administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
“If you are a leader with a better plan or policy, tell us. Don’t just say your plan is to stop affordable housing,” the President remarked, dismissing Nyoro’s comments as “empty talk.”
Nyoro, once a close ally of Ruto and a key figure in the Kenya Kwanza administration, has recently emerged as one of its most vocal internal critics. He has accused the government of misplaced priorities and reckless borrowing, claiming that flagship projects are placing unnecessary strain on public finances.
The outspoken legislator has also raised concerns about the Nyota Youth Programme, which is supported by the World Bank and seeks to empower vulnerable youth through skills training, entrepreneurship, and access to finance. Nyoro argued that Kenya should match World Bank contributions to ensure accountability and sustainability.
However, Ruto dismissed the MP’s remarks, asserting that all secured loans become part of Kenya’s national resources once disbursed.
“When the World Bank gives you a loan, does it belong to them or to us?” he posed rhetorically, emphasizing that the funds are meant for national development.
Ruto further accused his critics of lacking vision, saying their opposition threatens Kenya’s development goals.
“The young people of Kenya are tired of mediocrity and small thinking. They want us to aim higher,” he stated.
The exchange highlights growing tensions within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, with Nyoro increasingly positioning himself as a reform-minded alternative within the ruling camp
