President William Ruto is set to chair a Cabinet meeting today at State House, Nairobi, beginning at 10 a.m., just hours after returning from the UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) in Ethiopia. At the summit, Ruto reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to transforming food systems in support of sustainable development and climate resilience, while also engaging in bilateral talks with global leaders, including Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Today’s Cabinet session comes amid a flurry of other significant activities in Nairobi. Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua will launch the Persons with Disabilities National Policy at Sarova Panafric Hotel at 8 a.m. The policy aims to align with the Persons with Disabilities Act 2025, emphasizing inclusivity and rights protection. The event will feature presentations from stakeholders including civil society groups, UN agencies, and disability advocates.
Meanwhile, Acting Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Eveleen Mitei will appear before the Committee on Implementation at Bunge Towers to address the controversial house allowance structure for teachers. The revised structure categorizes regions into clusters to address disparities, but has drawn criticism from unions over perceived inequities and insufficient adjustments.
At 9 a.m., the Public Investments Committee on Social Services, Administration, and Agriculture will meet National Youth Service (NYS) CEO James Kipsiele over damning audit findings for the 2023/2024 financial year. The Auditor General’s report highlights severe governance and financial lapses at NYS, including unsupported asset valuations, stalled projects, and procurement irregularities.
These developments reflect the mounting governance and service delivery challenges confronting Kenya. The President’s leadership in today’s Cabinet session will be key in navigating these issues and reinforcing accountability in key government institutions.
