President William Ruto has paid a glowing tribute to the late ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, describing him as an unwavering visionary who dedicated his life to building a just and united Kenya. Speaking during Raila’s State Funeral at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, October 17, 2025, Ruto praised the opposition leader’s resilience, courage, and selflessness in shaping the country’s political and democratic journey.
“Those who worked closely with Raila Odinga know he was irrevocably stubborn in his vision for a just, prosperous, and united Kenya a nation where opportunities belong to all,” President Ruto said, earning a standing ovation from the thousands of mourners in attendance.
Ruto emphasized that Raila’s leadership was never about personal gain but about his deep desire to see fairness and inclusion prevail. “Whenever the nation needed him to rise above self, he always did so unreservedly. Whenever Kenya needed reason, he became the voice of reason courageously,” he added.
Reflecting on their long political journey, the President admitted that he never imagined working side by side with Raila after years of rivalry, but said their partnership was built on mutual respect and patriotism. “I have come a very long way with Baba. I never imagined he would one day stand with me to steady the nation. To you Baba, I owe you. I am truly and eternally grateful that our paths crossed,” Ruto stated.
The Head of State further commended Raila for rejecting tribal politics and focusing on national unity, noting that his open-minded leadership helped achieve key milestones in the country.
“He was not just a politician. He was a symbol of courage, a voice of the people, and a guiding light for our democracy,” Ruto concluded, describing Raila Odinga as a true patriot whose legacy will inspire generations.
