The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Uganda’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) have formalized a new political partnership. The agreement, finalized through a joint communique issued at Hustler Plaza in Nairobi, marks a significant step towards fostering cooperation between the two political powerhouses.
The framework, which was outlined by UDA Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, focuses on specialized, transformative training to benefit both parties in their respective areas of expertise. According to the communique, the NRM delegation will gain insights into Kenya’s Presidential Economic Council, with a particular focus on the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). This initiative is intended to help Uganda’s NRM deepen its economic policy capabilities and embrace more inclusive economic models.
On the other hand, the UDA will benefit from exposure to Uganda’s National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi. The institute is known for its leadership training programs, and this partnership is expected to enhance the leadership skills within UDA’s ranks, supporting Kenya’s ongoing development agenda.
During their 3-day official visit to Kenya, the NRM delegation held talks with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, discussing various urban development projects. They also visited Kibra’s affordable housing project, a key part of Kenya’s affordable housing initiative, which has been a cornerstone of President William Ruto’s policy agenda. These discussions are expected to lead to deeper collaboration in housing and infrastructure development between the two nations.
The partnership also saw the participation of UDA’s National Treasurer Japheth Nyakundi, Deputy Secretary General Hon. Omboko Milemba, and other senior party members, including Brian Mbugua and Daniel Kiptoo. The strong engagement between both parties signals a growing collaboration that could extend into areas of governance, economic policy, and regional stability.
This new political alliance between UDA and NRM presents a promising future of cross-border collaboration, focusing on sustainable development and shared growth between the two East African nations.
