Ryan Injendi, the son of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi, has blamed Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) Musalia Mudavadi for his loss in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries. Speaking on Sunday after conceding defeat, Ryan alleged that Mudavadi’s office influenced the nomination process, denying him a fair chance at succeeding his father.
According to Ryan, the people of Malava would have preferred a consensus among candidates instead of a full election. He revealed that discussions were underway with Mudavadi before the decision to conduct the vote was made.
“We were with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and we wanted to deliberate amongst ourselves who would get the ticket, but were advised to vote instead,” he said.
Ryan wondered why the PCS, who enjoyed a close relationship with his late father, would interfere in the race. “What was so big in Malava that you had to come and challenge a young man like me? Why wouldn’t you have left the people of Malava to vote their own way?” he questioned.
Despite his disappointment, Ryan conceded defeat and congratulated Kakamega County Minority Leader David Ndakwa, who clinched the ticket. He urged Ndakwa to ensure Malava remains aligned with the government.
“We have conceded, but we will not forget. I will stand aside and let Ndakwa campaign, but I will still stand with the government and President Ruto,” Ryan added.
The by-elections to replace Malulu Injendi and other leaders are scheduled for November 27. Mudavadi, who is currently in New York, has yet to respond to the accusations. Earlier this year, he merged his Amani National Congress (ANC) with UDA to strengthen the ruling party’s base in Western Kenya.
