Kitui County Senator Enoch Wambua has revealed that he deliberately skipped the Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Ithookwe Stadium on Monday, October 20, 2025. Speaking during an interview on a local TV station on Tuesday, October 21, the senator said his absence was not accidental but a conscious decision prompted by what he termed as deliberate exclusion from the event’s planning and communication process.
“It is true that I was not at Ithookwe yesterday. It was not by accident that I did not find myself there. It was a conscious decision that I made,” Wambua explained. He added that he had consulted with Kitui residents earlier, who unanimously agreed that he should not attend the fete.
The senator clarified that his decision was not driven by malice but by the lack of consultation from the organizing committee. “Being the Kitui Senator and Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate, I would have expected consultations prior to the event. That did not happen,” he said.
Wambua noted that despite being an elected leader in the host county, he was neither informed nor given a role in the day’s programme. “It was not for me to go and tell anyone to invite me. The organizers should have reached out and said, ‘This is how we want you to help us.’ That did not happen,” he added, emphasizing that he never received an official invitation.
President William Ruto presided over the national celebrations in Kitui, inspecting a military guard of honour at Ithookwe Stadium. However, the event was marked by the absence of several Ukambani leaders allied to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, fueling speculation of continued political tension between the Wiper faction and the Kenya Kwanza government.
Wambua concluded by asserting that as an elected senator, his participation should not depend on a formal invitation. “I can be identified without having to be invited,” he stated
