Activist Shakira Wafula has resigned from the David Maraga Presidential Campaign’s Political Committee, just months after being appointed, in a move that has raised questions about the campaign’s internal dynamics.
In a statement released on Monday, November 17, 2025, Wafula expressed gratitude for her time on the committee but cited differences in values and priorities with the campaign leadership as the reason for her departure.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served on the Political Committee within the David Maraga Presidential Campaign,” Wafula wrote. She highlighted that her involvement gave her a unique perspective on political organising, public service, and the importance of governance grounded in integrity and accountability.
While acknowledging the campaign’s slogan, “Reset, Restore, and Rebuild,” Wafula stressed that achieving these goals required a consistent alignment on core principles, which she no longer felt was present. “As our paths diverge on key values, priorities, and decisions within the campaign, I hope that my departure encourages thoughtful restructuring and strengthens the campaign’s commitment to good governance,” she added.
Wafula extended her best wishes to the remaining team members and reaffirmed her commitment to ethical leadership in Kenya. “May your work be guided by integrity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to serving the people of Kenya,” she stated.
Her resignation comes four months after Maraga unveiled a seven-member strategic communications team, which included Wafula alongside Carolyne Kiarie, Gloria Michira, Lewis Ngunyi, Nyamisa Chelagat, Shallet Kutment, and Susan Lumumba. The communications unit was established to streamline messaging and strengthen engagement with supporters nationwide.
The departure of Wafula, a prominent activist, opens a fresh chapter of scrutiny on the internal coherence of Maraga’s campaign, which has sought to position itself as a youth-friendly, value-driven movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
As the campaign navigates this development, all eyes will be on how it maintains unity and delivers on its promise to reset and restore Kenya.
