National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei has called for swift disciplinary action against Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, following serious allegations that he orchestrated his own abduction. Shollei insists that Koimburi’s hospitalization is unjustified and accuses him of engaging in criminal conduct that warrants prosecution.
Addressing a women’s empowerment event in Aldai Constituency, Nandi County, Shollei condemned the MP’s actions as a betrayal of public trust and a manipulation of the political process. “Koimburi is pretending to be sick in hospital,” she said, outlining the four alleged offences committed by the lawmaker: making a false statement under Section 66 of the Penal Code, providing false information to the police, causing a public disturbance, and inciting the public.
Shollei urged authorities to take action without delay, emphasizing the need for accountability. “We are asking Juja MP George Koimburi to get out of Karen Hospital so that we can have him arrested and charged in court for the offence of self-abduction,” she stated. Furthermore, she called on the Parliamentary Privileges Committee to hold a hearing to determine whether Koimburi should be suspended or even removed from his position as an MP.
The controversy erupted after Koimburi reported being forcibly kidnapped and later found at a coffee farm in Ruiru. However, investigations by the National Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have cast doubt on his claims, suggesting that the MP staged the abduction himself to garner public sympathy and political leverage.
Police have assured the public that they will finalize their investigation before proceeding with any action against Koimburi. Meanwhile, Shollei’s firm stance reflects growing frustration within Parliament over the incident, which she believes damages the integrity of elected officials and undermines public confidence in Kenya’s political institutions.
As the investigation unfolds, all eyes remain on the outcome and whether Koimburi will face charges for allegedly manipulating the law for personal gain.
