Leaders from Siaya County have appealed to residents to accord President William Ruto a warm and peaceful reception during his official visit on October 14, 2025. The President is expected to open the Siaya Trade and Investment Conference at the Siaya National Polytechnic.
Senator Oburu Oginga and Governor James Orengo led the call for unity and peace, urging locals to turn out in large numbers to welcome the head of state. Speaking at the Bondo Digital Hub on Friday, Oburu emphasized that Siaya has lagged behind in development for years but now has a president keen on transforming the region.
“Development thrives in a peaceful environment. A cow that receives harsh treatment cannot produce much milk for its owner,” Oburu remarked, encouraging residents to embrace peace and cooperation.
Governor Orengo revealed that the county will host a team of investors from October 14–17, 2025, to discuss funding for key sectors including cotton production, fish farming, oil, and tourism. He noted that reviving the once-thriving cotton and fish industries would be a major step in reducing poverty and creating jobs.
Trade Chief Officer Elizabeth Adongo said the conference will also promote Siaya’s rich culture and attract more investors. She urged development partners to seize the opportunity to explore the region’s vast potential.
Siaya Chamber of Commerce Chairman Stephen Obewo called for the formation of stronger cooperative societies to drive agricultural growth and market local produce efficiently.
LREB CEO Victor Nyagaya praised the Orengo-led administration for prioritising the conference, noting it will connect local entrepreneurs with global investors. He encouraged residents to prepare strong project proposals to attract funding for value chains such as dairy, poultry, coffee, and fruit farming.
With renewed focus on investment and cooperation, Siaya leaders believe the county is poised for a new era of economic transformation and prosperity.
