ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Sunday led a renewed political onslaught against President William Ruto in Nairobi, accusing his administration of overtaxing Kenyans and silencing critics through what they termed as “fabricated bribery claims.”
The leaders, joined by a host of legislators including Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri), Caleb Amisi (Saboti), Anthony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache South), Obadiah Barongo (Bomachoge Borabu), Clive Gisairo (Kitutu Masaba), and Joshua Kimilu (Kaiti), vowed to rally Kenyans against what they described as “state deception and economic betrayal.”
Speaking during a service at the Jesus Teaching Ministry (JTM), the MPs said their growing alliance, dubbed Kenya Moja, was now the nucleus of a broader anti-Ruto force ahead of the 2027 elections. Kibagendi claimed nearly 70 lawmakers are aligned with the movement, urging Kenyans to register as voters to “ensure regime change.”
Sifuna, likening the group’s struggle to the biblical story of Meshack, Shadrack, and Abednego, declared that they would not bow to state intimidation. “We have refused to kneel down; we are ready to die for what we believe in,” he said, dismissing claims of bribery in Parliament as a ploy to target dissenters.
Babu Owino also tore into the Executive, arguing that corruption is worse within the President’s inner circle. “First, start by arresting the people around you who are known for corruption,” he said.
The leaders further condemned plans to privatize the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), alleging a scheme to undervalue the parastatal before handing it to government proxies. “They want to sell KPC without our input; we will resist,” Sifuna vowed.
Interestingly, the forum also saw internal dissent within ODM ranks, with Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo opposing Raila Odinga’s recent call to scrap the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF). He warned that abolishing the fund would be “an injustice to poor families” dependent on bursaries.
The Kenya Moja alliance has in recent weeks intensified its campaigns across the country, warning that President Ruto does not deserve a second term unless he addresses the high cost of living and youth unemployment.
