ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has lauded Boyd Were for officially securing the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) ticket ahead of the Kasipul by-election, terming it a significant step in the young politician’s career and a proud moment for the party.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, after Were presented his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Sifuna described the moment as a milestone for both the candidate and the ODM fraternity.
“I want to congratulate you for now becoming the official candidate for the party,” said Sifuna. “This is a very large family, my brother. You belong to all of us now, and we are proud of the steps you have taken thus far.”
Boyd Were, son of the late Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were, emerged victorious in the ODM primaries after defeating five other contenders. His victory marks the beginning of what Sifuna called “a journey that requires collective effort” from both the party and the people of Kasipul.
Sifuna assured Were of unwavering party support as he campaigns for the November 27, 2025 by-election.
“The leaders from the Coast and Turkana will be here to campaign for you. When you enter ODM, you are not joining a normal political party; you are entering a system that stands by each other through thick and thin,” Sifuna affirmed.
Elsewhere, Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo assured Kenyans of maximum security during the Kasipul and other nationwide by-elections, emphasizing the government’s preparedness for a peaceful electoral process.
Sifuna called on the youth of Kasipul to rally behind Boyd Were, saying the party fully trusts in his ability to continue his late father’s legacy with dedication and integrity.
“This is not just about one person. It is about the party, the people, and the legacy we uphold,” Sifuna concluded.
