Police in Nakuru County have arrested a sixth suspect linked to a wave of violent robberies and murders that have shaken the region in recent months. The suspect, identified as Elijah Kimani Kinyanjui, was apprehended in the Mzee wa Nyama area and found in possession of stolen items connected to a recent armed robbery in Pakawa.
Authorities say Kinyanjui’s arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on armed gangs terrorizing residents in Nakuru. He has since been handed over to Nakuru East detectives and is expected to be charged alongside five other suspects arrested earlier in the week.
The arrests come in the wake of an intensified operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), led by the elite Operation Action Team and Crime Research Bureau, working jointly with local police units. The five previously arrested suspects—William Nywhili Rioba, Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo, and Peter Chacha—are believed to be key members of the gang responsible for a spate of attacks across the county.
During the recent operation, police recovered an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in multiple crimes, including the fatal shooting of a police officer on June 1. Investigators also linked the gang to a gruesome robbery in Soilo, where a 24-year-old shopkeeper was attacked with machetes and daggers, robbed of hundreds of thousands of shillings, and later fatally shot outside his shop.
DCI reports indicate that the gang has been involved in numerous similar attacks, leaving communities in fear and prompting urgent law enforcement action. The police have assured the public that operations will continue until all gang members are brought to justice.
Residents have welcomed the crackdown, calling for a sustained effort to restore peace and security in Nakuru. The suspects are expected to face multiple charges, including robbery with violence, illegal possession of firearms, and murder.
Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital in defeating organized crime and restoring safety in the county.
