Former Member of Parliament Wilson Sossion has launched a sharp critique against the united opposition, claiming its unity is built solely on hatred for President William Ruto rather than a shared vision for Kenya’s progress.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Monday, Sossion said the opposition has failed to develop a coherent, issue-based strategy capable of challenging the Kenya Kwanza administration in the 2027 General Election.
“It is disunited because it is taking us back in terms of the 2030 aspirations of driving issue-based politics. Any political grouping must have a clear agenda that unites all Kenyans and gives them hope. But what is uniting them is merely hate against the President, a raw search for power without outlining an alternative agenda for Kenya,” Sossion remarked.
The former MP further defended key government programmes such as the Social Health Authority and the Affordable Housing Project, describing them as transformative initiatives that are already improving lives. He argued that such efforts should not be dismissed merely for political convenience.
Sossion’s remarks come amid growing criticism of the opposition’s approach, particularly its focus on President Ruto rather than proposing concrete policy alternatives.
Echoing similar sentiments, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also dismissed the opposition’s rhetoric as “empty and retrogressive.” Speaking in Embu County during a meeting with over 4,500 grassroots women in Mbeere North Constituency, Kindiki urged Kenyans to support the government’s development agenda.
“The opposition has nothing to offer. They have no roads, no schools, no hospitals, and no development to show. Let us focus on the government of the day because that is where development comes from,” he said.
As political temperatures rise ahead of 2027, Sossion’s comments highlight the widening ideological gap between the government and the opposition a contest that may define Kenya’s next phase of political realignment.
