Authorities are investigating a series of tragic incidents reported across the country over the past week, ranging from brutal murders to drowning cases, as heavy rains continue to batter parts of Kenya.
In West Pokot County, a woman identified as Betty Nakuti, 44, was found murdered and her body dumped in River Muruny at Chebrumben village, Ortum. Police said the body was discovered half-submerged in water with two deep cuts on the head, suggesting a violent attack. Blood stains were found along the riverbank, indicating that Nakuti was killed and then dragged into the water. Her body was moved to the Kapenguria Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem. No suspects have been arrested so far.
Meanwhile, the heavy rains sweeping across the country have led to multiple drowning cases. In Turkana County, a Form Four student from Lokitaung Boys Secondary School drowned while attempting to cross a swollen river in Kibish. A search for his body was still ongoing by Sunday.
In a separate incident in Gachakai village, Kiambu County, a 13-year-old boy with hearing challenges drowned while crossing Kianda Kinene River. He had been reported missing on May 9, and his body was recovered the following day with no visible injuries. It was moved to Gatundu Level Five Hospital mortuary.
Elsewhere, in Nairobi’s Makongeni area, a 25-year-old railway station guard, Vincent Ngeno, was hit and killed by a commuter train. His body was discovered on the railway line long after the incident and taken to the City Mortuary pending an autopsy.
In another disturbing event in Maseno, Kisumu County, a boda boda rider, George Otieno, 31, was murdered and robbed of his motorcycle and phone. His body was found along a roadside in Ojola with deep cuts on the head. Investigations revealed he had transported two passengers the previous night but never returned. There was no blood at the scene, suggesting the body was dumped there.
Police investigations are ongoing in all the cases.
