The family of a 17-year-old boy from Kangemi is seeking justice following the tragic and violent death of their son, Wilberforce Kisia, who was allegedly beaten to death by bouncers at the VVIP Rooftop Club in Nairobi.
Kisia, a rising dancer and online influencer, had left home on Sunday to pursue his dreams in entertainment. According to his family, he was full of excitement and hope, unaware that it would be his final night alive.
“He told me he would be back Monday morning. By Tuesday, we still hadn’t heard from him. That’s when I knew something was wrong,” said his brother, Kennedy Ambani.
For four days, the family searched desperately, checking social media, calling friends, and visiting hospitals. Suspicion grew when Kisia’s content began disappearing from the club’s social pages. When Ambani contacted the club’s cameraman, he was told to “ask the management.”
Witnesses later revealed a harrowing account of the incident: Kisia had allegedly been assaulted by two security guards after a misunderstanding while dancing on the club’s stairs. One guard reportedly held him by the neck and dragged him into a back room, where he was left to die. His body was not reported until the following evening.
A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as blunt force trauma and prolonged assault. Two bouncers have since been arrested and are scheduled to appear in court on May 21, 2025.
“They killed my child… my baby,” said his mother, Joyce Kavai, overcome with grief. “I keep asking why. Why did they kill him? But no one tells me anything.”
Beyond mourning their son, the family is questioning how a minor was allowed to work or perform at such a venue. They say their calls for accountability have so far gone unanswered.
“I want justice. I won’t accept that my son died like an animal,” Kavai said.
As investigations continue, the family holds on to hope that justice will be served and that Wilberforce Kisia’s death will not be in vain.
