Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has set aside political rivalries to mourn the death of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah’s father, Mzee Isaac Ngugi.
In a heartfelt message shared on Friday, September 5, 2025, Thang’wa expressed deep sympathy, recalling his own painful experience of losing a father at the age of 13.
“Having lost my father at the tender age of 13, I deeply understand the pain and emptiness that comes with losing a parent. I solemnly convey my heartfelt condolences to Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, his family, and friends on the passing of his beloved father, Mzee Isaac Ngugi. May the Almighty grant you strength and peace during this difficult season,” Thang’wa wrote.
Ichung’wah and Thang’wa belong to opposing political camps, with the Kikuyu MP being a key defender of President William Ruto while the Kiambu senator is among the most vocal allies of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens’ Party.
Despite their differences, leaders from across the political divide joined in mourning Mzee Ngugi, who was remembered as a visionary and industrious Kenyan.
President William Ruto described Ngugi as “an astute businessman and one of the brains behind the founding of Kikuyu Town,” noting that his transformative initiatives touched many lives.
“Mzee Ngugi was industrious and compassionate, supporting the vulnerable and leaving a legacy that will live on. Rest in peace, Mzee,” Ruto stated.
Makadara MP George Aladwa said losing a parent is “a nightmare no child wishes to face,” while National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula highlighted Ngugi’s longevity and achievements.
“Mzee Ngugi, who passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Kikuyu home, lived a remarkable 105 years,” Wetang’ula noted.
Mzee Isaac Ngugi’s death marks the loss of a respected patriarch who shaped community growth and left behind a strong family legacy. His passing has united leaders and citizens in grief, transcending political lines.
