The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of popular TikTok personality Godfrey Mwasiaga, widely known as Kakan Maiyo, over allegations of inciting violence against law enforcement officers and their families.
Maiyo was apprehended on Wednesday at Kimathi House in Nairobi, where he was reportedly operating a private office under the name LetaPeleka Logistics. The arrest followed the circulation of a viral video on his TikTok account, in which he allegedly called for attacks on police officers amid ongoing anti-government protests.
“Detectives trailed the suspect to Kimathi House, where he was operating a discreet office… He is currently in custody undergoing processing, pending arraignment,” the DCI said in a statement.
Authorities say the arrest is part of a broader national operation targeting individuals accused of spreading hate and inciting public unrest during recent protests that have swept across the country.
The same day, President William Ruto issued a stern warning while addressing a gathering in Kilimani, where he was inspecting the construction of affordable police housing. The President denounced attacks on officers and the destruction of public property as acts of terrorism.
“Nimewavumilia ya kutosha, sasa mtanikoma,” Ruto said, meaning, “I have tolerated you enough, now you will face me.”
Ruto warned that further acts of violence would be treated as an open declaration of war against the state. “This is no longer a protest; this is anarchy. And we will crush it without fear or favour,” he stated.
The President vowed to use all legal avenues to protect lives, businesses, and public institutions. He also accused unnamed political figures of manipulating the youth and attempting unconstitutional regime change.
“To those plotting in the shadows, let me tell you clearly if you have ambitions, prepare your policies and meet me in 2027. There is no shortcut, no backdoor,” Ruto said.
Maiyo’s arraignment is expected in the coming days as the state intensifies efforts to quell unrest and prosecute instigators.
