A tragic wave of violent incidents rocked parts of the country over the weekend, with three separate murders reported in Nairobi, Kisii, and Embu counties, prompting renewed concerns over rising insecurity and unresolved disputes turning deadly.
In Nairobi’s Soweto area of Kayole, a 26-year-old man was stabbed to death in a suspected love triangle confrontation. The deceased, identified as Dennis Kibe, reportedly informed a local bodaboda rider who was also allegedly involved with the same woman that he had dropped “his wife” at her residence. Witnesses say this provoked the suspect, resulting in a heated exchange that quickly turned violent. Kibe was fatally stabbed in the back, with the knife still lodged in his body when police arrived. The suspect fled the scene and is currently being pursued by authorities. Police are investigating the love triangle claim as a potential motive for the murder.
In Kisii County’s Raganga area, police are probing the suspected murder of 45-year-old Gladys Nyabeta Ogori. Ogori had reportedly left her home in Nyabatuta village on Thursday to attend a funeral, but she never returned. Her body was discovered two days later in a bush about eight kilometers away. According to police, the body had visible injuries on the forehead and neck, indicating a possible violent struggle. The motive behind the killing remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, in Kiritiri village, Mbeere, Embu County, a land dispute ended in bloodshed when 46-year-old Ephantus Njagi Ireri was fatally shot with an arrow. Ireri had previously reported threats from his alleged attacker, who is known to him. The two are believed to have been feuding over government-allocated land. The suspect allegedly confronted Ireri and shot him in the chest with an arrow, killing him instantly. Police are actively searching for the suspect to face murder charges.
Authorities have expressed alarm at the increasing frequency of homicide cases, with up to eight murder incidents reportedly occurring daily across the country. Investigations into all three killings are underway, as families mourn the loss of their loved ones and justice is sought.
