Two suspects are currently in police custody in Kakamega following the recovery of a stolen motorcycle, thanks to a joint operation conducted by officers from Kakamega and Mudete police stations.
The suspects were apprehended in the Mudete area, Vihiga County, after officers acted on intelligence that led them to a rental house near Mudete Centre. Inside the premises, the police discovered a red Boxer motorcycle bearing registration number KMFQ 735P, which had been reported stolen.
According to a police statement released after the operation, the motorcycle had been hidden with the intention of evading detection. However, the swift and coordinated response by law enforcement enabled the recovery of the stolen property before it could be dismantled or resold.
“The motorcycle was positively identified by its rightful owner,” police confirmed. “We thank the public for the information that led to the successful recovery and arrest.”
The suspects, whose identities have not yet been released, are being held at Kakamega Police Station as investigations continue. Police are working to determine whether the two individuals are part of a larger syndicate involved in motorcycle theft, a crime that has seen a worrying rise in various parts of western Kenya.
Motorcycles are a popular mode of transport and a key source of income for many residents in Kakamega and surrounding regions. The theft of such vehicles not only causes financial strain to owners but also affects livelihoods.
Local residents have praised the police for their swift action and called for increased patrols and community sensitization to curb rising theft cases. Authorities have also urged motorcycle owners to enhance security measures, including the use of trackers and secure parking, to prevent future incidents.
Meanwhile, police have assured the public that thorough investigations are underway, and the suspects will be arraigned in court once the probe is complete. The recovered motorcycle remains at the Kakamega Police Station as part of the ongoing case.
This arrest marks another step forward in efforts to reduce petty and organized crime in the region.
