The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to a fair and transparent nomination process for the upcoming Mbeere North parliamentary by-election. The seat became vacant following the appointment of Geoffrey Ruku, the former MP, as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.
In a recent retreat attended by UDA national chairperson Cecily Mbarire, Cabinet Secretary Ruku, and at least nine of the twelve aspirants eyeing the party’s ticket, the party emphasized unity, development, and servant leadership. The gathering served as a platform for dialogue on the constituency’s development priorities and the need to uphold integrity throughout the electoral process.
“In light of the upcoming Mbeere North By-Election, the meeting underscored the importance of integrity, inclusivity, and fairness,” the party said in a statement. “All candidates were assured of a transparent and credible nomination process.”
During the retreat, leaders deliberated on current and future development projects while exploring solutions to the pressing challenges facing Mbeere North residents. The party also urged all aspirants to conduct issue-based campaigns and focus on the betterment of the constituency.
The aspirants who attended the retreat include Josiah Thiriku, Leonard Wamuthende, Dominic Murage, Stephen Ngari, Joab Kwayo, Muriuki Njagagua, Kariuki Mate, and Daniel Mbongo. Their participation in the dialogue reflects a unified front as UDA seeks to strengthen internal democracy ahead of the by-election.
With the recent appointment of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners, by-elections for vacant seats that were previously on hold can now proceed. Seats left vacant due to Cabinet nominations and other causes are being filled in line with the law.
UDA concluded its statement by reiterating its core belief that leadership is rooted in service and driven by a collective vision for change. “The party celebrates the spirit of unity and focus that defined this retreat, and looks forward to walking this journey together with the people, for the people.”
The Mbeere North by-election is expected to be closely watched as the party tests its internal democracy and commitment to transparent electoral processes.
