The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has officially expelled nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from the party over allegations of violating the party’s Code of Conduct. In a statement issued on Monday, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar confirmed that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) ratified the decision following a recommendation by the Disciplinary Committee.
According to Omar, the expulsion took effect immediately after the NEC meeting held on May 19, 2025. The Disciplinary Committee had reviewed Disciplinary Complaint No. 2 of 2025, filed by Festus Omwamba and Henry Muriithi against Orwoba, and found her actions incompatible with party values and loyalty.
“Pursuant to Article 29 of the UDA Party Constitution, and having exhaustively deliberated on the matters before it, the Party’s Disciplinary Committee resolved that Senator Gloria Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the United Democratic Alliance with immediate effect,” the statement read.
As a result, Orwoba will no longer enjoy any privileges or responsibilities associated with being a member of the UDA. She is also barred from representing or acting on behalf of the party in any capacity.
The party has formally written to the Speaker of the Senate to initiate the process of removing Orwoba from her Senate seat. UDA has nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, to replace Orwoba as the new nominated senator.
Furthermore, UDA has communicated Orwoba’s expulsion to the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
While the party acknowledged the constitutional rights to freedom of expression and association, Omar emphasized the importance of party fidelity. “Senator Gloria Orwoba cannot continue to play for two political teams simultaneously,” he stated.
Orwoba, known for her vocal advocacy on menstrual health and gender issues, has yet to issue an official response to her expulsion.
This development underscores UDA’s firm stance on internal discipline as it seeks to strengthen its political structure and assert unity among its ranks ahead of upcoming political milestones.
