The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has reiterated its commitment to honoring the late Raila Odinga by fully implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar made the declaration during a party delegates’ meeting in Vihiga.
Omar emphasized that the party will execute the NADCO report and all aspects of the broad-based government arrangement as originally agreed. “We in UDA will ensure that we honour Raila Odinga’s commitment, that all the agreements word for word that he reached with President William Ruto are implemented. It is the best honour we can give the fallen hero, Raila Odinga,” he said.
He further outlined that the coalition will advance the proposed governance structure, strengthen the national economy, and actualize every recommendation within the NADCO report and the 10-point agenda. “We as UDA and ODM will work together to ensure the goal is achieved. It was Baba’s wish that we unite,” Omar added.
The meeting also addressed grassroots mobilization, particularly in the context of the upcoming Malava by-election. Lamu Governor Issa Timamy urged the Luhya community to back the UDA candidate, noting that the contest will shape the political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election. “This vote is very crucial for the Western region and for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. It is important for the seat to be won by UDA. Even if they combine forces, they cannot defeat us,” Timamy said.
UDA Deputy Secretary-General and Host MP Omboko Milemba highlighted that the meeting sought to strengthen party structures at the grassroots level, especially following the merger between UDA and ANC. “This meeting was meant to bring UDA leaders closer to the grassroots. We have not had a better opportunity than this to meet with our leaders,” he noted.
The meeting reflects UDA’s commitment to political unity, honoring coalition agreements, and consolidating support ahead of future electoral contests.
